About

Hi, I'm Satya.

I have been teaching Maths at international schools in Thailand for more than a decade, and there is one problem almost every student faces: word problems.

The problem is not the Maths itself. Even my brightest students, the ones who flew through the sums, would read a word problem and freeze. They could not break the words down into numbers. Where do I start? What is it even asking? They simply could not see it.

That all changed when I discovered the bar model. Honestly, it was a game changer.

The bar model turns words into pictures. Instead of hunting for keywords and guessing which operation to use, students draw what they read. Suddenly they can see the whole problem: what they know, what is missing, and how all the pieces fit together.

And it is not just for adding and subtracting. Fractions, ratio, percentage, "how many more", "how many at first", before and after: the same simple bars work for all of them, from the early grades right up to exam-style questions.

When students can see the problem, they can solve it.

That is why I started The Bar Model Teacher. Short, practical lessons, real classroom problems and ready-to-use lesson packs, so you can bring the bar model into your classroom tomorrow and watch the lightbulbs come on.

If you have a question about teaching bar models, email me. I read every one.
